Connect with Your Guidance
For two days, I hesitated to email this article to you dear readers. Mind muck swirling: “it doesn’t have enough value…no one wants to read something so personal” haunted me. I know these old ghosts are not true yet there was a stickiness to them. My guidance pointed the Way.
“How has journal writing cultivated inner knowing, guidance and healing in my life?” a reader asked.
During my last four months of health challenges (a respiratory ‘cold’ that lingers and frost-bitten toes in January that led to peripheral neuropathy - painful nerve damage) connecting to my guidance has aided my healing. When I struggled with self judgement about freezing my toes – causing myself harm – I wrote in my journal:
“Dear Body: What would you like me to know/do/not do to help support your healing and ongoing health?”
To use this practise of seeking guidance write your question in your journal to your Wise Self, God, Higher Power, or body if specific body wisdom needed. Sit quietly and breath without expectation. Allow your pen to write freely and quickly with no editing or thinking.
Writing flowing upon the page – by-passing the thinking brain – always surprises me – as does the answer. If we write the question within our journal and no answer flows – no problem. Trust that too. Rereading my prior day or weekly journal entries (two revealing rituals for journal writing) the answer may appear to the question I asked days earlier.
My body responded to my journal question:
“Know – no blame. We are in this together. I love you ‘til death do us part. Faithfully, you have listened to me, cared for me/for us… Good food, exercise, nature, fresh air, sunlight, water, rest, doing what you love, working on your mind states, letting go of what we do not need/what harms us, and transforming into a wise, loving, sensitive, caring, good-hearted human being. You/we have experienced great goodness, love, and full life, Teresa, love. Continue with love and all is well with our soul.
Love, Your body friend forever (on this planet)
Healing love… with no hint of judgement and good humour. You may not receive a letter in response to a question written within your journal when seeking guidance. Guiding messages can arise from a phrase read later, the words of a friend, a line from a song, the flight of a Whiskey Jack in the forest and/or as for me – a Small, Still Voice bubbling up from a deep inner well.
Write each precious gift given within your journal. In this we anchor connection to our healing guidance moment by moment.
As this article languished on my desk for two days (I had asked for guidance about it) I received a message from a girlfriend with whom I rarely connect as she lives far away. She wished me a Happy International Women’s Day and thanked me for being her mentor saying, “Your knowledge and vulnerability have taught so many with your stories and your truth.”
A clear message. I hit send.
