Heartful, New Year Intentions

Last night during a live Q & A call with Dr. Elizabeth Stanley, “Widen the Window,” she encouraged us to think about our intentions for 2023.

Making intentions - that we can hold lightly - feels better than committing to goals. New Year’s Resolutions that we clutch and strive toward for weeks or months, often leave us feeling guilty when we fail to meet the goal.

Too, Dr. Stanley’s suggested creating a self retreat this weekend to reflect upon our New Year’s Intentions. Discovering today is the Wolf full moon, further inspired me to create a weekend retreat to ponder 2023 intentions. I have a deep affinity with Wolf who visits me with dream guidance. So, friends, here I am at home on my New Year’s Retreat, trying to heal from ongoing lung congestion from a two-week cold/flu. Continuing my healing path physically is an obvious ongoing intention. I expanded this intention to include the four quadrants: Spiritual, Physical, Mental and Emotional. I drew a Medicine Wheel and am writing my intentions for each area (as I learned to do when working at Okanagan Indian Band).

After being retired for 3 years, surprisingly yesterday a colleague offered me full-time work as a program/student mentor. For years I had done this work and felt honored to do so. Yet, I had also planned to continue work on myhealingjournal.ca website and co-facilitate a “Wild Writer Workshop” in the forest this spring. I can NOT do both.

With this work decision pending, I am grateful for contemplative time this weekend in my self declared, home retreat. This morning in my journal I wrote:

Where am I in my life now? I am 68…The End Passage of Life. In the scale of one life, there is little time left.

What within me, do I need to hear, express, live, love, and create in this momentous time of my life?

These questions and more, I will sit with, listening for guidance as I set my 2023 New Year’s Intentions during my retreat this weekend.

May your highest wisdom guide you in reflecting on your 2023 New Year Intentions. May you hold them lightly, trusting in the great unfoldment of life.

Wishing you Heartful, New Year Intentions friend,

Teresa
