Profound Guidance and Direction
Recently I declared the weekend of the Wolf Full Moon to be a self retreat. Yes! This was exactly what I needed to ponder my New Year Intentions and to discern if I wanted to return to work full-time after three years of retirement (Click here to read Heartful, New Year Intentions article). The synchronicity of being offered full-time work, the same day as I was given the self retreat suggestion was no coincidence.
Inspired, I drew a Medicine Wheel in my journal. Daily I listened within and wrote my intentions within the four quadrants: Spiritual, Physical, Mental, and Emotional.
During my self retreat I created a list of pros and cons (which I never/rarely do) for returning to work full-time. Continuing my healing path in all quadrants, spending time with my granddaughter (with full-time school beginning too soon), extending my writing time to a minimum of 3hrs times 3 days a week, and co-creating a Wild Writing Workshop with a friend were key New Year Intentions.
These priorities also appeared on my con list for full-time work prefaced with: “no time for…” all the above. With undeniable clarity I saw I would not be listening to myself if I took a full-time job.
I would not be listening to my guidance. I declined.
Since then, I have transcribed my Medicine Wheel onto a larger sheet of paper. Over a week, I reread my words upon the wheel everyday. New truths and intentions - wanting to be seen and heard and lived – flowed from my pen. A week later, when I thought I was done, the Wolf (sacred animal of Elders & Spirituality in the North) niggled me: “Draw a Howling Wolf!”
This made sense. One of my intentions was to ‘Howl my Wildness to the World.’ And too, I am a Wolf Whisper according to my dream guidance. But wait…me draw a large howling wolf head and ruin the wheel I had spent days working on? Ha!
Yet, over time, I have allowed myself to pencil sketch within my journal margins. This small act of creativity is a joyful one. But a big howling head? YouTube to the rescue! “How to Draw a Howling Wolf,” with visual directions. Surprisingly my Howling Wolf turned out to be an impressive creature. Look below and see for yourself!
With joy I admired my completed Medicine Wheel, New Year Intentions and Howling Wolf. Wait! One more inspiration arose. I drew a full moon behind the Wolf’s Howling head. Perfect. This Medicine Wheel creation began on the Wolf Full Moon on my self retreat.
A gift of profound guidance emerged from making space in my life and within my journal for the creative genius to arise and howl my truth.
Profound Guidance and Direction arises from my self retreat!
